In addition to looping through content, Loop elements may include options for Alternate and Static Items. These allow you to use Components to change how content is displayed within the loop, adding static information such as advertisements, notifications, and promotions.
Alternate items are best for displaying alternate designs for returned items within the query. They will be displayed instead of the standard Repeated Component.
A Static Item is ideal for integrating ads, promos, or notices within the Post Loop Builder or Term Loop Builder elements. Static Items are not dependent on the results and should not use dynamic data from looped items in the query.
Alternate and Static Items can be added by clicking the “Advanced” control in the appropriate control section for the Loop element you are working on.
You’ll then be able to select a Component to use for the Alternate or Static Item.
The Alternate and Static Items offer flexibility in terms of positioning and frequency. You can set the initial position for each item, choose whether or not to repeat them, and determine the frequency an item repeats.
Example: If you set an Alternate Item to “Position: 4”, “Repeat: Yes”, and “Frequency: 2”, the Alternate Item will first show as the fourth result of the query. The Alternate Item will then be used for every two results after it first appears.
